What are you trying to protect?

What instances could it have when you’re living alone, together with your television and some furniture and stuff then your home security is less needed. But what if you have a family and children with you, and you also fear to loose all your personal belongings like expensive antiques, jewelry or any other valuables, then your need for home protection security is much greater than expected.

The relevance of protecting your home so that you’ll feel safe and secure and you won’t need to worry for your family and children, including your personal important valuables to get lost.

Do you live in a high-crime area?

If you live on a neighborhood in a long time, probably your already aware of which area is safe or not, or whether it is safe to leave your doors unlocked at night, if you reside on a high-crime area, then installing a home security is greatly needed. When your residing on a new town or location, it is best to research the level of crime just incase, use this following information to know the details of crime level in your area:

- neighbor
- local real estate agents
- police stations

Is your house a natural target for a burglar?
Mostly burglars usually targets homes either:
- ground level apartments – preferable to be targeted comparing with a 3 or more stories.
- Homes surrounded with wide thick bushes, trees and plants –burglars loves to hide there.
- Old, cracked doors are trouble- free for burglars to barge in.
- A house on a dark street or houses with less lights turned on – when owners seldom goes home are targets from burglars as well

Does your homeowners’ insurance carrier offer discounts for home security systems?

Some have complains regarding insurers who doesn’t give discounts when installing your safety measures in your home, but generally it will also depend on what kind of security systems you choose to install, 5% discount are given for installing dead bold locks and another 5% if you get another burglar alarm, if you want to go with more stylish and classy security alarms with complete monitoring system, a 20% discount is given, you can also get extra discounts on installing detectors like sprinkler system and smoke detector, verify your insurers and make sure if they have given you the correct discounts to you.

Can you afford a system?

There are different kind of security systems you can install on your houses depending on how classy and refined it is like a burglar systems which includes sensors that detects when your armed, detects when a door or window is broke opened, this systems are operated when one of the sensors are tripped, then an alarm will sound right away, or even a noisy beep or bell including those flashy lights just like the ones you’ve seen on TVs.

If the system includes off site monitoring hence the local police department will get notified. Floor sensors can identify and intruder by its weight made by footsteps or even insignificant movements made with in that range or sensors.

Protecting your home using modern technology is greatly amazing whether it’s a bit costly, but don’t let the price discourage you, you can shop around and choose a security system that is best suited for your range of income. Check your yellow pages or even the internet and see for security system professionals and dealers.

Is there anything you can do to minimize the need for a home security system?

Can’t afford too much of high tech gadgets on protecting your homes? You can still do something about it, below are number of things you can do to your home:
- Install additional locks, and replace old locks with a new one, replace hollowed door from metal made or solid wood.
- Install a wide angle peephole device on your door, don’t rely too much on the side chain from your door.
- Check the sliding glass door if you have one at your home, whether they can be lifted out of their frames from the outside.
- Install removable pins, nails or rods to avoid windows from being opened and replace the old cracked windows and panes.
- Cut your long wide bushes on your loans which surround your houses.

Try to create illusion that your well protected whether you have or don’t have any security alerts or systems installed like for example:
- try buying an adhesive tape and label it with “beware of dog” and affix them to every door and window from your house, this illusion will discourage the burglar to barge inside your house.
- If you’re usually away from home, try buying an inexpensive lamp that times itself and liter on at dawn or even bedtime, this creates an illusion that someone is currently at your home and will somehow discourage again the burglar who is agitated to make a move at your home.
